Chapter Thirteen
Max
Oops. Did I just say that aloud? Whenever he was around Wesley, he seemed to lose his filter and blurt out exactly what was on his mind. If he kept that up, things could get dicey because he was about ready to pounce on his date.
Wesley didn’t seem fazed by it though, and Max was happy to just let his comment go unacknowledged. He took another bite of the Reuben.
“So, you think I’m cute?”
Shit. Max shook his head and stared at his sandwich as he chewed.
“Can I take it back?”
“I don’t want you too.”
“Why? You like when I embarrass myself?” He pulled out a stray piece of sauerkraut and popped it into his mouth. Just as he swallowed, he felt a hand gently cradle his chin.
“Hey,” Wesley said and turned Max’s head toward him. “When it comes to embarrassing moments, I think I win, hands down.”
Max thought back to some of the vocal exercises he’d made Wesley do and had to agree. He chuckled. “Okay, you have a point, but I still shouldn’t just blurt things out like that.”
“Why not? I happen to think you are cute too. I’ve had you on my mind all week, and I haven’t been able to think of much else.”
"Really? Well, that's a relief," Max whispered, remembering his own struggle to focus ever since Wesley had asked him out. “If we’re being honest, there’s one more thing you should know.”
“What’s that?” Max took a deep breath for courage and tried not to move a muscle, since Wesley was still holding onto his chin.
"I think you should kiss me."
"I think you're right." Wesley bridged the small gap between them and softly brushed his thumb against Max's cheek before kissing him.
Max was transfixed; he couldn’t remember anyone ever being that delicate with him. He watched as their faces drew closer and closer together. In fact, Max watched right up until their lips met, and then he let his lids fall dreamily shut. Their mouths were a perfect match.
Wesley started moving his lips against Max's, deepening the kiss enough that Max abandoned his sandwich in favor of wrapping his arms around Wesley's neck. He couldn't stop himself from grabbing a fistful of Wesley's hair and giving it a firm tug. The moan that escaped Wesley lit Max’s entire body on fire. He loved that he had that kind of effect on the gorgeous brunet. After more tugging and more moaning, Max finally managed to pull away, so he could catch his breath.
They sat on the blanket with silly smiles on their faces.
"You taste like sauerkraut."
"So do you." Max picked his sandwich back up and took another bite.
"Well, it's a good thing you discovered you like Reubens then."
"Mmmhmm," Max managed with his mouth full.
Wesley shook his head. "You are adorable, even if you do inhale your food."
"Inhale? No! It's just really good!"
"You don't have to tell me! I'm the one who introduced you to that sandwich."
"Technically, my dad did, even though I never had the guts to taste his.
